Babyphotographer.com CEO, Bethan Brome Lilja, Was Featured on an ABC News 20/20 Story on Intrade for Betting Big on McCain and Obama; the Company Founder Raised $250,000 to Fund That National Growth of Her Business, Babyphotographer.com

The founder and CEO of Babyphotographer.com, Bethan Brome Lilja, bet big on McCain and Obama and raised over $250,000 to fund the national expansion of her business. As a result, the Boston-based company expanded to New York City in February 2008 and plans to expand to two more major metro areas in the U.S. before the end of the year.

Bethan invested in futures contracts for McCain and Obama to be their respective party’s nominees through a prediction market exchange, Intrade.com. She grew the company’s funds by 1000% in less than a year. Bethan was the featured trader in an ABC News 20/20 story on Intrade.com on May 9, 2008.

With the earnings from Intrade, Babyphotographer.com is able to fund their national expansion without finding outside investors or securing a loan. “We know our business works and we have a vision to bring it to every major metro area in the U.S,” said CEO Bethan Lilja. “At the same time, we want to keep our fun work environment and small business feel. The Intrade earnings allow us to grow how we want and where we want without being run by a bunch of suits.”
