Q.replay Reference Platform Will Enable Rapid Deployment of Stand-Alone Instant-Replay Boxes as a Simple TV Accessory, Just in Time for the Beijing Summer Olympics
COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008
Qpixel Technology, an innovator in video compression silicon and software solutions, today introduced the Q.replay reference design, a new platform to enable low cost, stand-alone devices for instant replay of live television, just in time for the China Olympics.
By enabling instant replay capability on any television, this new reference design from Qpixel could bring a great deal of excitement to watching this year’s summer sporting events in Beijing. Most cable and satellite receiver boxes and TVs deployed in the market lack replay functionality. Qpixel’s new TV accessory reference design brings this functionality to any STB (set top box) or TV set with composite video interface, without the need for external memory or a costly hard drive. Plus users of this device will have the option of adding a SD flash memory card, which would allow them to permanently store their favorite video clips. In the enhanced recording mode of this device, users may also choose pre-selected times for recording their favorite TV programs when they are away in order to watch them later at their convenience.
“This innovative design from Qpixel will enable OEMs to bring to market the ability for TV viewers to stop and rewind live television with their existing STB and TV set,” said David Zhang, General Manager for Qpixel’s China operation. “The manufacturing readiness of Q.replay reference design offers OEMs and channel vendors tremendous business opportunity before and during this year’s Olympic games.”
This turn-key platform is a highly integrated design, based on Qpixel’s QL202B standard definition H.264 SoC, intended to minimize OEM (original equipment manufacturer) time-to-market by providing a complete reference design kit, including gerbers, hardware design files, and all required software. Sample industrial designs and boxes are available for those manufacturers who want to take this turn-key system into market as is, by just private labeling Qpixel’s design.
Designed for easy use by the consumer, the accessory device based on Q.replay is connected to the cable or satellite receiver’s analog A/V output on one side, and the TV’s analog A/V input on the other side, and would be controlled using a very simple IR remote. The only connections to the box would be audio and composite video inputs, audio and composite video outputs, and the AC power adaptor, already standard with most all TVs in households today. An optional SD memory card slot provides consumers the flexibility to add external memory for adding PVR functionality, storing their favorite video clips for later viewing. The simple, yet complete design allows for extremely easy installation and user control, which is critical for wide-spread consumer market adoption.
The Q.replay reference design from Qpixel is competitively priced, and is available now. To order yours, please contact Qpixel sales at salesinfo {at} qpixeltech(.)com.
