Vendors Selected for the “Cool Vendor Report” are Innovative, Impactful and Intriguing

Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs), a global provider of systems software and virtualization technology for embedded systems, has been included in the list of “Cool Vendors” in the “Gartner Cool Vendors in Mobile and Wireless Technology” 2008 report.1

According to another Gartner report about the 2008 Cool Vendors, this report is where “investors, users and technology providers seeking interesting partners or acquisition opportunities will find fertile ground.”2

OK Labs develops and markets OKL4, a virtualization and system-software platform for embedded systems, offering Secure HyperCell™ technology, which provides a secure environment for operating systems, applications and drivers on mobile devices.

“We are excited to be included by Gartner in the Cool Vendor in Mobile and Wireless Technology report,” said Steve Subar, president and CEO of OK Labs. “We believe this is a strong validation of our dedication to research, our collaborative open source model and our ongoing commitment to being an industry standard for high-performance mobile technology.”

OK Labs has helped original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) realize dramatic improvements in the delivery of reliable, secure and safe embedded systems software. Additionally, the deployment of OKL4 in mobile devices offers many business benefits, including the reduction of bill of materials cost for manufacturers, shorter development cycles and smartphone security capabilities.

OKL4 can be found in the Toshiba W47T and in HTC mobile devices such as the Mogul, the XV6800, PPC6800, P4000, HTC TyTN II P4550 (HTC Kaiser 120) and the HTC Touch Dual, all of which are available through leading service providers. OKL4 was also used in FIC’s OpenMoko Neo 1973 smartphone to demonstrate two simultaneous Linux systems running on a singular processor core.

About Gartner’s Cool Vendors Selection Process

Gartner’s listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new, and innovative vendors, products, and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose. Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: innovative, enable users to do things they couldn’t do before; impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); intriguing, have caught Gartner’s interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
