Michael Phelps was named the winner of the 2007-2008 Toyota Grand Prix Series Saturday night following an impressive performance at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational.
Phelps won the 100-meter backstroke in the second fastest time in the world this year at Qwest Center Omaha before taking home the $20,000 check from Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc., and USA Swimming for winning the overall eight-meet Toyota Grand Prix scoring series.
With one day of competition remaining, Phelps mathematically secured the $20,000 prize as the top medal winner throughout the series. He competed in five of the Toyota Grand Prix Series meets, winning a total of 20 gold medals and four silver medals, to earn 112 points.
Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc., representatives Beth White and Lisa Harrison made the presentation to Phelps, along with Mark Schubert, General Manager for USA Swimming.
