Seagate to Award $20,000 in Engineering Scholarships
Seagate Technology (NYSE: STX) announced today it will issue $20,000 in scholarships to high-school students in the St. Vrain and Boulder Valley School Districts and to a limited number of those awarded scholarships in 2005, for 2006-07 enrollment in the colleges of engineering at Colorado State University and University of Colorado at Boulder. The students will be selected to receive $2,000 and $1,000 scholarships, respectively, based on the following criteria: grade point average, financial need, community involvement and technical innovation/creativity.
“We’re very excited about this opportunity to open some doors for students in our community who have a strong interest in engineering and have worked hard in school but might not have the financial backing to enroll in a university,” said Seagate’s Andy Davis, vice president, Design Engineering. “These scholarships are meant to go to those students who have a passion for the sciences, an innovative spirit and an interest in applying technology in ways that will benefit society.”
Applications for the Seagate Scholarship Program are available on the Seagate corporate web site at http://www.seagate.com/newsinfo/citizenship/community/scholarship.html. Completed applications will be accepted through March 15, 2006. Recipients of the Seagate Scholarship will be notified in early April. Scholarship applicants must be admitted at the university of choice (CSU or CU) and have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form on file in the university’s financial aid office. Incoming freshmen scholarship recipients will receive the first half of the scholarship ($1,000) in the fall 2006 semester and the final payment in the spring 2007 semester. Likewise, returning student recipients will receive the first half of the scholarship ($500) in the fall semester, and the final payment in the spring semester.
