International Distributor Acquires Rights To Additional Features and Territories

National Lampoon, Inc. (AMEX:NLN), the most widely recognized brand in comedy, today announced that it has expanded its multi-territory distribution deal with Beta Film, headquartered in Germany. The expanded agreement adds two National Lampoon original titles along with additional major international and European territories. The announcement was made today by Tom Daniels, National Lampoon president of worldwide distribution.

Previously, Beta Film had acquired all rights to distribute two National Lampoon films, including “National Lampoon’s Bagboy,” the first feature produced and financed in-house by National Lampoon in the company’s 35 plus year history, across Germany, Spain, Italy, and Eastern Europe. Under the expanded deal, Beta Film has acquired rights to two additional original National Lampoon films, “National Lampoon’s Ratko: The Dictator’s Son” and “National Lampoon’s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus Wallace Leonidas” and extended distribution rights on the movies by adding major new territories in Europe and Africa.

Extension of the deal followed National Lampoon’s participation at Beta’s traditional “Beta brunch” at MIPTV earlier this month, where Beta screened National Lampoon footage to international buyers.

National Lampoon recently signed multi-picture distribution deals for Canada with Equinoxe, Middle East with Front Row, Australia with Force Entertainment, and Russia with Lizard Cinema Trade.

“We are delighted to be expanding our relationship with Beta, “said Daniels. “I look upon this as a sign of good faith from international buyers in our original National Lampoon features. I am excited to be partnering with a premier distributor like Beta to take National Lampoon’s signature brand of comedy into new markets.”

“National Lampoon’s Ratko: The Dictator’s Son” and “National Lampoon’s The Legend of Awesomest Maximus Wallace Leonidas“ are the second and third original titles produced and financed in-house by National Lampoon. All original films will be released theatrically through National Lampoon Releasing, while the company is open to broader distribution partnerships with major studios. National Lampoon previously announced a deal with Comedy Central for the first broadcast television window rights on its original movies.

National Lampoon Releasing and National Lampoon Home Entertainment will release up to twelve titles per year, comprised of four original films and up to eight acquisitions. Distribution will be handled independently by National Lampoon, with some titles having broader distribution in partnership with major studios. Upcoming releases from National Lampoon include the original production “National Lampoon’s Bagboy” and “National Lampoon Presents Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell”, both slated for DVD release this summer.
