Undertone Networks Joins Network Advertising Initiative; Adheres to Industry Standards for Privacy in Online Advertising
General Press Releases June 21st, 2008
Undertone Networks, a premium online advertising network, announced today it has joined the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), a cooperative of online marketing and analytics companies that are committed to addressing important privacy and consumer protection issues in emerging media.
As a member of the NAI, Undertone will follow applicable NAI principles, including giving consumers the ability to opt out of targeted advertising. The NAI established these self-regulatory principles in 2000 with the support of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to build consumer awareness and establish responsible business and data management practices.
Undertone president and chief executive Michael Cassidy participated in the FTC’s town hall meeting about privacy and online advertising targeting practices last year. “Our NAI membership supports our ongoing commitment to industry standards and aligns with the business practices we have been following since our inception,” said Cassidy. “We recognize the importance of consumer privacy and we pledge to help protect it through self regulation of these principles.”
“We’re thrilled with the growing participation in our organization,” said Trevor Hughes, executive director of the NAI. “We look forward to working with Undertone Networks as we continue to develop responsible, consumer-focused industry standards.”
