NEC Corporation of America Highlights Carrier Innovation with the Introduction of a New Telecom Industry Awards Program

NEC’s ‘Empowered By Telecommunications’ Awards to Recognize Outstanding Operator Achievements; First Award to Be Announced at NXTcomm 2009

NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading technology provider of network, IT and identity management solutions is proud to announce a new NEC awards program geared toward the U.S. telecommunications community. The ‘Empowered By Telecommunications’ Awards is open to all United States Telecom Association (USTelecom) carrier member organizations and seeks to identify outstanding achievements obtained by telecommunications operators and service providers.

NEC will recognize outstanding network deployments and chief successes from industry peers, by honoring three winners with an ‘Empowered By Telecommunications’ Award at the USTelecom Membership Reception at NXTcomm 2009, a yearly event delivering the entire ecosystem of network-enabled voice, video, and data. The three award categories will highlight achievements in: business-value, technical-achievement and overall-market success.

“This is an exciting time for the U.S. telecommunications industry as new technologies and business opportunities are rapidly changing the communications environment,” said Walter B. McCormick Jr., president and CEO, USTelecom. “As the landscape changes, it is important to recognize industry leaders for their innovative visions and business successes. NEC’s ‘Empowered By Telecommunications’ Awards are a great way to laud executives who are true industry visionaries.”

Yoshichika Iida, senior vice president, NEC Corporation of America, added, “Telecommunications carriers are proactively taking charge of opportunities afforded to them to best prepare for future broadband growth. Working with USTelecom and its members will allow the industry to seek new innovative ways to achieve excellence in customer service and network implementations.”

Award winners will receive a US$10,000.00 donation made by NEC Corporation of America to an approved educational institution of the award winner’s choice, within their service area. To ensure the credibility of the award process, third-party personnel – not specifically under contract with NEC Corporation of America, will participate in the judging process. Nominations for the award will be accepted beginning Monday, November 10, 2008, and will close at midnight Eastern Time on Friday, April 10, 2009. Nominations may be submitted online, via email or using general mail service via the US Postal Service.
