7th Annual Digital Media Summit
xtranormal Inc. — which creates near-life, character-based online messaging, communications and story telling — was voted Best of Show by the audience last week at the seventh-annual Digital Media Summit.
Montreal-based xtranormal (www.xtranormal.com) was one of five companies that pitched for five minutes before the Digital Media Summit audience and two investor judges. Conference attendees used their mobile phones to text their choice for best investment prospect using a text-to-screen polling system developed by Waterfall Mobile (www.waterfallmobile.com).
“xtranormal’s deceptively simple program was a great example of how the hottest tech companies today are enabling users to create their own online content,” said Digital Media Summit Chair Michael Stroud. “And that’s exactly what this year’s show focused on.”
xtranormal allows customers to manipulate 3D avatars within preset environments to effortlessly create animated profiles, talk shows, newscasts, and movie clips. Customers can then combine these animations with third-party clips and broadcast the resulting videos to their friends.
“We were very excited to have been afforded the opportunity to showcase our new storytelling tools to such a prestigious group, and extremely proud to have been chosen as the award winner for best investment opportunity,” said Richard Szalwinski, xtranormal’s founder, president and CEO.
Other presenting companies featured at Digital Media Summit’s Demo and Venture Forum included: CoLoursTV, a cable and satellite network delivering programs that target an urban audience which is multicultural, sophisticated, and tech savvy; IMAGE (Interactive Meet And Greet Entertainment), a Business Operating System that allows Autograph Collectors to have a face-to-face encounter with a celebrity from the comfort of their home; Mavric Media, which provides creative professionals easy-to-use media tools in a web-based self-serve, secure environment; and WhiteNoise Systems, Inc., an innovative provider of data-centric protection products and services that protect data at the point of creation.
The two judges were Joe Jasin, Vice President, Corporate Development, SK Telecom International and Jake Zim, COO, Safran Digital Group.
Digital Media Summit (www.digitalmediasummit.com) is one of Hollywood’s oldest — and most provocative — summits about digital media. It is produced by iHollywood Forum (www.ihollywoodforum.com), which specializes in events about the intersection of technology and entertainment.
