Targus implements end-to-end VoIP communications network at INVISTA

New Delhi, June 30, 2008 – Targus Technologies, one of the leading system and network integrators in India has announced the successful completion of end-to-end implementation of VoIP communications network at the India office of INVISTA, one of the world’s largest integrated fibers and polymers businesses headquartered in the United States with a global presence. The implementation is expected to benefit INVISTA with reduced communications costs, enhanced reliability in overseas communications, improved operations and increased employee productivity.
INVISTA India was facing a challenge common to many organizations, viz. finding an affordable way to take advantage of latest technologies and implement a robust communications system that could enhance employee productivity. INVISTA was considering small key telephone system and communicating with their Central and other Offices through PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), which could not offer valuable features such as employee Caller ID, or individual extensions for staff members. In addition, the key system does not provide automated attendant capabilities as all incoming phone calls need to be answered by an employee and transferred as needed. Moreover, after regular business hours, there was no one to receive the calls.
Targus Technologies analyzed their requirements and recommended the much more robust, reliable and scalable VoIP based solution keeping in mind the future growth aspects. Targus identified Cisco CallManager Express, a Cisco® solution for IP communications, as the perfect solution to meet INVISTA’s requirements. Cisco CallManager Express is a solution embedded in Cisco IOS® Software that provides easy and affordable IP telephony capabilities for small businesses and enterprise branch offices.

The implementation of Cisco CallManager Express solution will enable INVISTA to capitalize upon the extensive portfolio of Cisco integrated services routers and multi-service access routers to deliver a robust set of telephony features commonly used by business users, while simplifying management, maintenance, and operations, and lowering the total cost of ownership. Cisco Call Manager Express for IP telephony services provides cost-effective communication option for employees as well as an automated attendant and also, information services to the callers.
The IP telephone sets used in the implementation were Cisco 7900 Series IP Phones, which connect to an office LAN for voice and data communications, created with a Cisco Catalyst® 500 Express Switch and a Cisco 2800 ISR (Integrated Service Router) multiservice platform for connection to the PSTN. The IP Phones in the Voice VLAN get IP’s from the Router itself and Desktops in Data VLAN get IP’s from CO (Central Office), Singapore through a different router connected to the IP WAN Network.
Since Targus’ deployment of the Cisco solutions, INVISTA India has reduced costs, improved its operations, and discovered new ways to serve members and callers. Now INVISTA India is able to use the Auto-attendant feature to provide directions, service times, and event announcements to callers. Other advantages include:
