RMI Processors Are the First Multi-Core Multi-Threaded Solutions to Be Validated by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)

RMI Corporation, a leading provider of High Performance Processor Solutions for Networking, Communications and Media Rich Applications, today announced that its Multi-Core Multi-Threaded XLS and XLR Processors have achieved FIPS 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 is the U.S. government’s stringent security standard for cryptographic modules. It is widely recognized as the benchmark for the highest levels of security assurance and is being rapidly adopted by both government agencies and secure private industries such as finance, banking and healthcare.

“RMI joins many other companies such as Intel, AMD, Freescale, ARM and numerous ASIC products that have crossed this certification threshold. The certification of the XLS and XLR Processors as the first multi-core multi-threaded processors is an important milestone for RMI as a leader in the security market delivering the highest levels of throughput and performance,” said Mark Litvack, director, business development, RMI.

RMI products provide advanced processor technology in performance and integration, and are used by system and original equipment manufacturers to address a variety of Digital Consumer, Wireless, Networking and Security applications. The company’s XLR™, XLS™, and Alchemy™ processor families are based on an innovative MIPS-compatible architecture creating highly-integrated designs incorporating advanced internal architectures and built on leading-edge silicon process technologies.

Numerous security and networking equipment suppliers have implemented the XLS and XLR Processors in their systems, taking advantage of the integrated Autonomous Security Acceleration Engine® for FIPS certification. A sampling of equipment vendors that have reached certification can be found on the Digital Signature Algorithm (DSA) Validation List at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/STM/cavp/documents/dss/dsaval.htm
