Hatteras Networks and the MEF continue their leadership roles in driving the global adoption of Ethernet services
Hatteras Networks, the global leader in flexible Ethernet solutions for enterprise access services and next-generation mobile backhaul, today announced that the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) membership has re-elected Matthew Squire, PhD, Chief Technical Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering for Hatteras Networks, to its board of directors. This is Dr. Squire’s fourth consecutive term on the board of directors, as the MEF membership has grown to include over 150 companies representing the industry’s top Ethernet service providers and Ethernet technology and product innovators around the globe.
“Over the past eight years, Matt has been a major catalyst for the success of the MEF, and we are excited to have him on the Board of Directors for a fourth term,” said Nan Chen, President of the Board for the MEF. “Matt’s technical knowledge and experience in the industry will continue to be invaluable assets to the MEF as we work to promote the worldwide adoption of Carrier Ethernet.”
Dr. Squire continues to serve as an editor for the MEF’s technical committee, which oversees critical functions, building consensus and uniting service providers, equipment vendors and end-customers on Ethernet service definitions, technical specifications and interoperability. This committee is also responsible for setting industry-wide standards with multiple organizations, such as the IEEE, IETF, ITU and ATIS NIPP standards groups.
“As deployments of Carrier Ethernet continue to grow, service providers are becoming more focused on scalability and interconnectivity of Ethernet services, which are the next logical steps on the path to a global Ethernet footprint,” said Squire. “These will be key focuses for us at the MEF over the next year as we continue to raise the bar in terms of the value we bring to carriers, mobile operators, equipment suppliers and testing labs worldwide.”
Not only have Dr. Squire and other key Hatteras employees been very active in leadership within the MEF since its founding in 2001, but Hatteras Networks has enthusiastically supported the organization and its efforts since its inception. Hatteras Networks has played a leadership role within the MEF’s interoperability demonstrations and has participated in the MEF’s industry-leading discussions at major conferences and tradeshows, including Carrier Ethernet World Congress and NXTcomm.
About Hatteras Networks
Hatteras Networks is redefining the way carriers think about Ethernet services. Hatteras Networks’ EtherFLEX service delivery solutions are leading Service Providers worldwide to a $24 billion expansion of the Metro Ethernet market, which had previously been limited to the fiber footprint. Historically, T1s and E1s have been the fundamental building blocks for voice and data business services. Now, Service Providers can cost-effectively offer up to 45 Mbps Mid-Band Ethernet services over existing copper facilities, enabling businesses to migrate from legacy Frame Relay, ATM and T1/E1 connections to transparent Ethernet services for voice and data business connectivity, infrastructure backhaul and mobile wireless backhaul solutions.
Already deployed on five continents, Hatteras Networks solutions are enabling a market expansion for carriers that is as significant for business services as “triple play” is for residential. For more information, visit www.hatterasnetworks.com.
