THE HISTORY CHANNEL HD™ TO LAUNCH IN HONG KONG AND SINGAPORE

August 26, 2008 – New York/Singapore/Hong Kong – AETN All Asia Networks Pte. Ltd. (AAAN), a joint venture of A&E Television Networks (AETN) and ASTRO All Asia Entertainment Networks Limited (ASTRO), announced the launch of The History Channel HD™ in Hong Kong and Singapore. The launch marks the debut of The History Channel HD brand in the Asia-Pacific region.
The channel will launch on September 1 in Singapore on StarHub and in Hong Kong on now TV later that month.
The History Channel HD will broadcast 100 percent HD content, and will offer a separate schedule from the standard definition service. The channel will offer a variety of stunning, acclaimed programmes in high definition, including Cities of the Underworld, The Universe, Ax Men, Dogfights, Ancient Discoveries, and Ice Road Truckers. The History Channel HD will be fully languaged in Chinese.

The signal for The History Channel HD Asia will originate from the Digital Media Centre, Chellomedia’s broadcast facility in Amsterdam. Chellomedia is providing a range of broadcast services for the channel, including creation of the HD/SDI signal for hand-off and content language versioning.
Content delivery company GlobeCast and satellite operator MEASAT are providing a range of broadcast services in Asia for The History Channel HD, including fiber delivery to Asia as well as encryption, uplink and capacity on the MEASAT-3 satellite platform. The satellite, which has a footprint covering Asia, the Middle East and Africa, currently carries an wide range of premium channels and a growing number of HD services.
Now available in over 140 countries in more than 250 million TV households, The History Channel is the only international television network devoted exclusively to historical programming, featuring informative and entertaining series, specials and documentaries. The network reveals the power and passion of history, allowing viewers to experience history personally and connect their own lives to the great lives and events of the past. The History Channel was first launched by AETN in January 1995 in the United States. The History Channel HD launched in the UK in October 2006 and in the US in September 2007.
