Trojan Dropper Deposits Many Viruses into User Computer
Security Experts at MicroWorld Technologies inform that “Trojan-Dropper.Win32.Agent.alv†is a new addition to the Trojan Dropper family, known to drop various Trojans and Viruses into user computers while working in the system background.
This kind of malware is employed to install Trojans, greyware other malware on the user computer without the knowledge of the user or even sometimes by misleading the victim.
According to MicroWorld Experts, the modus operandi is that it will display an error message or warning, mostly from the system tray at the bottom right hand side corner of the computer. Now a message that gets displayed on that part of the screen is taken rather seriously by users, as many important programs and utilities are stationed there.
Once you click on the message, a new malware is installed to a specified location on the local disk, which gets launched immediately. Now each of these new files may contain invitations for more malware to keep this chain growing in number and dimension.
“These are different from the upgradable worms that we’ve seen in the case of Sober series. In there, it was just one specific type of worm improving its own code with small incremental files. Instead, a Trojan Dropper deposits all kinds of malware once it gains an entry into the computer. From Spyware to Trojans to Rootkits they don’t spare any breed!†observes Govind Rammurthy, CEO, MicroWorld Technologies. So far “Win32.Agent.alv†seems to be found only in North America, but chances of it spreading wider cannot be ruled out, he points out.
Another important aspect of a Trojan Dropper is its distraction methods and smart techniques employed to mislead the victim. Most of them carry hoaxes, jokes, games, graphics and so forth to make the user think that they are harmless while discreetly performing deadly operations in the background.
“Hackers are getting Trojan Droppers to slip through many AntiViruses which does not analyze all components of a downloaded file. This breed further underlines the need for deeper analysis of each data component that finds its way to your computer. Because a rather harmless looking code can turn out to be the mother all evils!†says Govind Rammurthy.
