The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today issued the following statement regarding a new electronics recycling program from Samsung Electronics America:
“Samsung’s new take-back and recycling program is a welcome addition to the current slate of electronics recycling options for consumers,” said Parker Brugge, CEA’s vice president of Environmental Affairs and Industry Sustainability. “The more opportunities consumers have to recycle their electronics products, the more likely they are to take advantage of such services.”
CEA research demonstrates that consumers are placing more importance on electronics recycling than ever before. In fact, 87 percent of US adults think that recycling unused electronics is important. That sentiment is quickly translating into action, as the number of CE products being recycled increases—up 27 percent in 2007 over 2005.
“Electronics recycling must be a shared responsibility between manufacturers and retailers, as well as consumers and government. CEA supports Samsung’s effort to enable consumers to take environmentally-responsible action with their consumer electronics products. Like other consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers who have adopted similar practices, this program demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.”
CEA’s website www.MyGreenElectronics.org offers more tips for consumers on how to responsibly use, reuse and recycle consumer electronics products. The site includes a zip-code searchable database of electronics recyclers nationwide, in addition to information on electronics recycling programs from consumer electronics manufacturers and retailers.
