Motorola and National Cable Television Cooperative Reach Major Set-Top Agreement
Motorola , Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today announced that the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) has placed an order for all-digital, high-definition (HD) and digital video recording (DVR)-capable Motorola set-tops, in the consortium’s first-ever volume set-top purchase. The announcement was made at The 2006 National Show, the cable industry’s largest trade show, held at the Georgia World Congress Center (Atlanta, Ga.), where Motorola is showcasing its digital video solutions for the “Mobile Me†at Stand # 1537.
The NCTC members are jointly making this purchase in a move to speed the delivery of digital services to the connected homes of the over 8 million subscribers they service nationwide. A programming and hardware buying cooperative, NCTC represents more than 1,000 independent cable operators and their 6,500 individual systems. Facing heavy consumer demand for advanced features, NCTC companies will rely on Motorola set-tops to introduce digital video recording (DVR) and offer high-definition television (HDTV).
Cooperative members will deploy the latest in Motorola digital video technology, including the DCT2500E home media network-ready core interactive set-top, the DCT6412 and DCT3412 high-definition digital video recorders, and the just-announced Motorola DCT3080 standard-definition digital video recorder.. “Motorola has proven to be a critical partner to independent cable companies with a wide range of scalable digital video solutions,†said Mark Bishop, senior vice president of hardware for NCTC. “This set-top agreement gives our members yet another competitive advantage and increases the value that we as a cooperative can offer to more than 8 million subscribers nationwide.â€
