Hyundai Motor India registers record breaking sales in March 2006

Hyundai Motor India registered record breaking sales of 30,038 units in March 2006. This is the highest ever sales recorded among all the Hyundai Motor Company factories outside Korea.

Hyundai Motor India (HMI) registered record breaking sales of 30,038 units in March 2006. This is the highest ever sales recorded among all the Hyundai Motor Company (HMC) factories outside Korea.

The sales of HMI vehicles including exports in the month of March’06 increased sharply reaching historical new record levels of 30,038 units accounting an increase of 26.5 % over March’05. The sales in the domestic market achieved a landmark figure of 22,524 units with a growth of 37.5% over the same period in year 2005. The company’s exports for the month stood at 7,514 units, growing by 2.1% over the corresponding month in ‘05.

In March 2006, the sales of Santro and Accent touched a new sky. The cumulative sales of Santro and Accent are 22,800 and 5,052 units respectively. This is the highest ever sales recorded for Santro and Accent by HMI since its inception.

The segment-wise cumulative sales in the month of March are as follows: A2 Segment: 24,706 units, A3 Segment: 5,052 units, A4 Segment: 196 units, A5 segment: 46 units, SUV Segment: 38 units.

HMI in the first quarter of CY 2006 registered a growth of 13.6% with a total sale of 68,653 units as compared to the 60,428 units over the same period in 05′.

Commenting on the record breaking sales for the month, HMI Managing Director, Mr H S Lheem said,

“The record breaking sales are a clear endorsement of our products in India. The driver for our growth is commitment to our discerning customers to deliver quality product and performance at affordable price.”

“In fact last month we have achieved another historical landmark by rolling out the fastest 10, 00,000th car. And to continue with the success in the domestic and overseas market we plan to ramp up our production capacity to 6, 00,000 units by 2007. We have also recently introduced the 3 shift operation in our existing plant to cater to the strong demand of our products,” he added.

The plant will be built on a 2.1 million square meter site adjacent to the existing facility with an investment of $450-$500 million on its new integrated facility. HMIL is investing to expand capacity in line with its positioning as HMC’s global export hub for compact cars. Apart from expansion of production capacity, HMIL plans to expand its dealer network, which will be increased from 157 to 200 this year. And with the company’s greater focus on the quality of its after-sales service, HMIL’s service network will be expanded to over 1,000 in 2006.
