Breakthrough MSC7120 SoC Enables Triple Play Services at the Speed of Light
Broadband World Forum Europe 2008

Freescale Semiconductor’s MSC7120 GPON system-on-chip (SoC) device has won the prestigious 2008 InfoVision Award in the category of “Enabling Silicon and Component-Level Technologies.” Presented earlier this week at the 2008 Broadband World Forum Europe event by the International Engineering Consortium (IEC), the award recognizes advances in technologies, applications, products and services judged to be the most beneficial to the information communication technology industry.

Freescale’s MSC7120 device is a comprehensive SoC hardware solution for GPON equipment designed to enable triple play services at the speed of light. Built on third-generation Freescale PON technology, the MSC7120 device is a groundbreaking solution that has been deployed in large volumes worldwide. It combines the delivery of voice, video and high bandwidth data services over optical networks in a single system-on-chip.

“With the MSC7120 device, Freescale was first to market with a voice-enabled GPON SoC for the convergence of IP packet and optical networks,” said Nikolay Guenov, portfolio manager for Freescale’s Networking Systems Division. “This prestigious award validates both the technical and business accomplishments that this product has achieved.”

The International Engineering Consortium is the foremost engineering society dedicated to advancing the electronics industry by facilitating partnership between industry and academia for continuing education, research and service programs.

“We were pleased to honor Freescale Semiconductor for its MSC7120 GPON SoC device as a winner of the InfoVision Awards at the Broadband World Forum Europe 2008,” said IEC executive vice president Roger Plummer. “This year, we themed the event ‘Delivering the Promise,’ and the InfoVision winners certainly play a significant role in delivering the broadband promise.”

In addition to the award-winning MSC7120 GPON solution, Freescale recently introduced the MSC7104 – a cost-effective, highly integrated solution engineered to help lower costs and spur adoption of GPON equipment in cost sensitive markets worldwide. Combining proven technologies and production-ready enablement options, the device is designed to spur adoption of GPON technology by creating multiple cost-effective entry points into the market.
