Dimension Data Leverages AirMagnet’s 802.11n WLAN Solution to Optimize Wireless Networks Across Europe

AirMagnet Inc., the leader in security, performance and compliance solutions for wireless LANs, today announced that the company’s 802.11n WLAN Solution is being used by Dimension Data, a specialist IT services and solutions provider, to survey, plan and optimize 11n wireless networks throughout Europe. Highlighting this development is the company’s recent project to plan and deploy an 802.11n wireless network at one of the UK’s largest telecom companies.

This allowed us to plan the deployment and fold in the necessary elements needed to effectively deploy 11n. In June, a second assessment confirmed that the newly installed network elements were functioning perfectly, as predicted by the AirMagnet products and our team.”

AirMagnet is the preferred provider of wireless assessment tools for Dimension Data’s regional service teams throughout Europe. AirMagnet offers critical software solutions used by these teams to plan wireless deployments where priority applications, such as voice, require a predictable and accurate level of wireless coverage.

“During the deployment, we measured a range of parameters for the site survey including signal distribution, signal to noise ratio, and speed distribution. AirMagnet’s tools provided this information in graphical format, which we then presented in a report back to the client. This information enabled us to demonstrate to the client the expected throughput of wireless traffic in its new premises, as well as the enhanced wireless coverage when compared with 802.11a, b and g protocols,” continued Ellis. “The results showed that we could achieve transmission rates of around 130Mbit/s, compared with 54Mbit/s when using standard 802.11g.”
