AMD Opteronâ„¢ Processor Marks Its Third Anniversary With More Server Market Share Gains

Coinciding with the third anniversary of the launch of the AMD Opteron™ processor and AMD64 technology launch, AMD (NYSE: AMD) announced today it has seen an increase in its overall x86 server processor market share. Based on the 2006 first quarter numbers from Mercury Research, the AMD Opteron processor now accounts for 22.1 percent of the worldwide x86 server processors shipped in the first quarter, up from 16.4 percent in the 2005 fourth quarter. These new numbers, combined with today’s introduction of 12 new platforms that meet the AMD Validated Server guidelines, demonstrate strong demand and momentum for AMD Opteron processor-based solutions across various commercial customer segments.

The AMD Opteron processor-based validated servers offered by Newisys, Supermicro Computer, Inc., Tyan Computer Corporation and Uniwide Technologies, Inc. were unveiled this week at the AMD Worldwide Distributors Conference in Dubai, and several will be on display today in AMD’s booth at Gartner IT ChannelVision Europe in Monte Carlo. AMD Validated Server platforms are thoroughly tested for quality, compatibility, longevity and stability and are backed by global manufacturers who have met rigorous standards of performance and service in order to participate. The new platforms are being sold in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

“As the number of available AMD Opteron processor-based servers from our OEM and system builder community continues to rise, so does our share of the x86 server from both a market and revenue perspective,” said Henri Richard, executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer, AMD. “AMD remains committed to working collaboratively with leading manufacturers to develop qualified, reliable and well-supported server solutions with industry-leading x86 performance-per-watt-per-dollar for the channel.”
