Alliance Will Further Unite Grid and Storage Requirements for Enterprise Users

New Delhi, April 24, 2006 — The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and the Enterprise Grid Alliance (EGA) today announced an alliance to help further the functionality and interoperability of storage to support enterprise grid solutions. Under terms of the agreement, SNIA and EGA technical working groups will leverage their respective domain expertise to support standards development work. The agreement also calls for both associations to collaborate on the education of members and the general public, and to selectively participate in each others marketing and member activities. The agreement is expected to immediately result in a stronger understanding of grid requirements by the SNIA’s Storage Management Initiative (SMI) and of storage capabilities by EGA’s Data Provisioning and Reference Model working groups.

According to PK Gupta, Chairman, Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), India, “Collaboration between the organizations will drive longer term results in enterprise grid requirements being supported in the SMI Specification (SMI-S) and other SNIA standards, strengthening the overall benefits to the end user and vendor communities.”

“The SNIA recognizes enterprise grids are becoming ever more common and have unique requirements for storage and data management where collaboration with other industry associations is necessary to create complete infrastructure standards and solutions,” said Wayne M. Adams, Chair of the Board of Directors for the SNIA.

“With the EGA being a recognized authority on the requirements and use cases of enterprise class grids, our alliance will advance the use of grids for a broader range of industry applications.” “Working with the recognized leader in the area of storage management standards provides us with the opportunity to forge a broader model for enterprise grids. We are delighted to partner with the SNIA and expect it will lead to both associations better meeting the unique needs of enterprise customers who employ grid architectures,” said Don Deutsch, president, Enterprise Grid Alliance.
