Adobe InDesign CS2 Leads Next Wave in Publishing and Design Innovation

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced the latest version of its layout and design program, Adobe® InDesign® CS2. Available as a stand-alone software application or as a key component of Adobe Creative Suite 2, also announced today (see separate press release), InDesign CS2 software continues to demonstrate technology leadership by fine tuning the page layout workflow to make it easier, faster, more fluid, and versatile for designers. Over the last two years major magazines, newspapers, book publishers, advertising agencies, graphic design firms, and corporate creative groups have adopted InDesign and continue to achieve significantly higher productivity and more refined creative results.

“Since its launch just five years ago, InDesign has shaken-up the page layout and design market, allowing household-name magazines, newspapers and brands to move to a modern, open standards based publishing workflow,” said Shantanu Narayen, president and chief operating officer at Adobe. “InDesign CS2 builds on this market momentum, turbo-charging productivity while keeping creativity at the heart of the publishing process.”
Design Efficiency Improves Productivity

InDesign has emerged as a critical tool in the design process, serving as the central place where text, graphics, and images are assembled to prepare final pages for output. InDesign CS2 improves the speed and efficiency of designers in a variety of workflows from text-intensive book, magazine, and newspaper production to high-end XML-based cross-media workflows. Designers can increase productivity and create more consistent designs by saving graphic, text, and frame-level attributes as Object Styles, which are easy to apply and globally update. Exporting objects with the new InDesign snippets features enables users to easily share or repurpose live InDesign content and layouts from part of a page.

The new Adobe Bridge functions as a hub for productivity, imagery and creativity, providing multi-view file browsing and smooth cross-product integration across Adobe Creative Suite 2 software. Adobe Bridge also provides access to Adobe Stock Photos, a new stock photography service that offers users one-stop shopping — across five elite stock image providers — to deliver high-quality, royalty-free images for layout and design (see separate press release).
Put Creativity in Control

Adobe InDesign CS2 continues to deliver cutting-edge creativity tools that give designers more control. Designers can experiment with different design options or use multiple variations of a file layout by selectively displaying layers and layer comps in Adobe Photoshop® or layers in Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) – all while linking to a single file. Using anchored objects, users can associate callouts, pull quotes, margin notes, and graphics with specific text, all with precise control over positioning and other attributes. Drag-and-drop text, within or between frames, makes it easy to quickly reuse text in different locations.
