WIPRO recognizes Innovation champions

Introduces new category for ecological sustainability

Bangalore, India, October 21st, Wipro Technologies, the global IT arm of Wipro Limited (NYSE:WIT) today announced the winners of The Applied Innovation Awards for Business Excellence, 2008. This award recognizes Co – Innovation by teams at Wipro who have successfully taken their breakthrough ideas and concepts to reality and have generated business results to showcase their efforts. As such, this views innovation through the lens of practicality while designing unique solutions that create industry wide impact in a sourcing ecosystem.

The awards this year saw over 265 nominations, out of which 12 winners were awarded today at the ceremony held at Wipro’s Electronic City campus in Bangalore. The jury comprised of eminent thought leaders such as Dr M S Krishnan- University of Michigan, author of New Age of Innovation, Dr Pankaj Chandra- Director IIMB, Dr Sridhar Mitta- e4e labs, Dr Rao & I Vijayakumar- CTO, Wipro ltd.

The categories for the awards were: Process, Product/ Service, Business model & Delivery innovations. Keeping in line with its corporate wide initiatives to foster Green innovations, a special category called “Innovations for ecological sustainability” was also constituted this year.

Speaking at the awards ceremony I Vijayakumar, Chief Technology officer, Wipro Ltd said “Continuing the tradition of fostering innovation at Wipro these awards are a testimony of how our new ways of thinking are delivering enhanced business benefits to our customers.”
