Design enhancements offer high performance with low power requirements
Night Vision Conference
booth #76
eMagin Corporation (OTC:EMAN), a leader in OLED technology, will be demonstrating and taking orders for its SXGA OLED-XL microdisplay at the Night Vision Conference in booth #76 at the Olympia Conference Center in London through October 23, 2008. The company expects to begin shipping product samples in November 2008.
eMagin’s next generation SXGA OLED-XL(tm) microdisplay (1280 x 1024 triad pixels) offers digital signal processing in a compact package (0.77-inch diagonal active area) requiring less than 200 mW of total power under typical operating conditions of 100 cd/m2 in full-color. Design enhancements include increased pixel uniformity, enhanced contrast, and on-chip temperature sensor with gamma and luminance compensation. On-board circuitry ensures consistent color and brightness over a wide range of operating temperatures. Potential applications range from night vision, thermal imaging, tactical awareness, medical imaging, and training and simulation to mobile video entertainment and electronic gaming.
“As more applications evolve for mobile information products, higher resolutions are required. In addition, recent developments in high-bandwidth sensor technology have led to increased resolutions and the promise of better performance for upcoming Night Vision systems with challenging requirements for transmitting the information efficiently to the display while keeping overall power consumption low,” said Susan Jones, eMagin’s Chief Business Officer. “Our growing portfolio of dual use OLED microdisplays offers the best combination of high resolution and low power requirements, and promises an easy-to-integrate solution for many virtual imaging systems, including those that operate in adverse conditions such as extreme temperatures and high-vibration conditions.”
eMagin is also showcasing its SVGA+ Rev3 OLED-XL microdisplay and its prototype SVGA-3DS OLED-XL microdisplay at the Night Vision Conference this week.
eMagin’s SVGA+ Rev3 display offers the most power efficient OLED solution for near-eye personal viewer applications such as thermal imaging, using less than 115 mW power in monochrome and lower than 175 mW at 100 cd/m2 for full color video. The SVGA+ Rev3 microdisplay allows for a simpler calibration over temperature and is ideal for demanding binocular luminance and color matching. The SVGA+ Rev 3 also shares all the functional and design characteristics of eMagin’s original SVGA+ Rev2 OLEDs, already proven in military and first-responder systems, including responding instantly at temperatures as low as -40 degrees C.
eMagin’s SVGA-3DS OLED-XL microdisplay offers both analog and digital signal processing in a compact display (0.44-inch) with greater power efficiency. The SVGA-3DS microdisplay eliminates the need for extra circuitry and components while allowing for a smaller display module design with increased functionality, such as 3D auto-sensing for both frame sequential and line sequential stereo signals. Specific features include increased pixel uniformity, enhanced contrast, improved color gamut, on-chip temperature sensor and compensation, and compatibility with both analog RGB and digital video signals. The 800 x 600-pixel array comprises triads of vertical sub-pixels stacked side by side to make up each 11.1 x 11.1-micrometer color pixel. Versatile timing controls accommodate a variety of video formats.
