Environment Agency Enters Next Generation With Cable&Wireless’ Multi Service Platform

Environment Agency moves core network to a managed service from Cable& Wireless as part of a three year contract to connect core 50 sites
Environment Agency to benefit from cost reductions and increased network capacity
Mumbai, 22 October 2008: Cable&Wireless has been awarded a three-year multi-million contract to deliver a managed network service for the Environment Agency using the company’s next generation Multi Service Platform (MSP). The network will increase network capacity and allow the Environment Agency to better serve both the public and the environment.
As part of the agreement, Cable&Wireless will migrate the Environment Agency’s existing core infrastructure into a single, high speed, flexible network, connecting its 50 largest sites.
The Environment Agency responds to national emergencies, such as flooding, so its needs a quick and secure network that can be relied upon at all times. Receiving critical data on flood warnings in an efficient manner is crucial to the protection of property and the public, so it’s vital that the information is prioritised and delivered to the right people at the right time.
With MSP, the Environment Agency will have a network with the capability to transport all types of information to help users – from flood system monitoring to basic e-mail – together with the ability to prioritise information, so routine traffic doesn’t block mission critical data.
MSP is a next generation market leading network solution, which also gives clients the flexibility to utilise a range of innovative data applications such as IP CCTV and High Definition video conferencing.
The increased delivery speed and service reliability offered by MSP will enhance the Environment Agency’s ability to better monitor incoming data, and so react more quickly when dealing with natural disasters.

Multi service platform (MSP)
The MSP is Cable&Wireless’ next generation telecommunications network. It is a single operating network, which transports all information and services (voice, data, video, other media etc) via an IP-based infrastructure. The MSP enables Cable&Wireless to provide efficient, high bandwidth networks, with quicker delivery times and higher service reliability. Cable&Wireless is also able to offer a range of innovative data applications like IP-CCTV and Fixed Mobile Convergence via the MSP.
