CA World 2008

CA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CA) today announced three new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings across its Enterprise IT Management (EITM) and Governance portfolios to help customers rapidly and cost-effectively maximize the business value of their software implementations. Over 1,000 customers worldwide use CA SaaS and hosted solutions to improve IT economics.

SaaS, also known as software “on demand,” is a model in which software is developed, hosted and operated for use by customers over the Internet. Customers do not own the software itself, but rather pay to use it.

The new Services from CA’s On Demand Business Unit are CA Clarity PPM On Demand, which has already seen significant customer adoption since its introduction in April 2008, CA GRC Manager On Demand and CA Instant Recovery On Demand. CA plans to continue expanding its roster of SaaS solutions, based on customer need and the value customers can derive.

“CA On Demand solutions will allow our customers to ‘buy once and buy best,’” said Jules Ehrlich, senior vice president and general manager of CA’s On Demand Business Unit. “Whether their business requirements are early stage or mature, customers will find it’s simple to access precisely the application functionality they need from one of the deepest and broadest IT management and governance portfolios in the industry. With our financially compelling SaaS model, customers can focus on their critical business initiatives while CA focuses on enabling their IT organization to operate more efficiently and effectively.”

CA On Demand solutions offer industry-leading functionality with faster implementation. Customers are spared large up-front technology investments and on-premises software deployment time. Organizations can improve cost savings, free up scarce IT resources for other priorities, speed service deployment and gain flexibility to adapt to changing business needs.

CA On Demand solutions are designed to:
Provide easy access to a range of integrated solutions from one of the industry’s most comprehensive enterprise IT management and governance portfolios;
Be simple to use and also offer the deepest and broadest functionality available, meeting the needs of both early stage and mature, complex businesses;
Improve IT economics with pay-as-you-go subscription pricing and reduced infrastructure needs;
Offer secure, scalable, and optimized applications supported by CA’s world-class hosting facilities and application professionals; and
Allow customers to focus on their business while CA operates and manages the software infrastructure requirements.

Three CA SaaS solutions were announced today:

CA Clarity PPM On Demand is a SaaS version of the industry-leading Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) solution that over 900 customers worldwide use for enterprise-wide governance of IT expenses, staffing, investments and projects. With CA Clarity PPM On Demand, organizations of all sizes and maturity levels can now have access to a proven, scalable and feature-rich solution that delivers IT Governance value immediately, and over time.

An organization realizing immediate benefit from CA Clarity PPM On Demand is the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), the nation’s second largest municipal health department which uses the solution to help manage their $165 million in annual grants. The CDPH is using CA Clarity PPM On Demand to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their grant processes, while helping to dramatically reduce the loss of approximately $10 million per year in funds incurred in their manual tracking of grants.

“In a time of increasing need and decreasing resources, it is critical that we maximize the value of our grants,” said Carlo Govia, CDPH 1st Deputy Commissioner and CFO. “Working with CA as our technology partner, we were able to implement the CA Clarity PPM On Demand solution in days to help manage the performance, reliability and security of our grants program, while minimizing the IT resources necessary to support it. CA Clarity PPM On Demand is already helping us meet these objectives and better serve the people of Chicago.”

CA Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Manager On Demand is a SaaS version of CA’s comprehensive solution for managing critical risk and compliance initiatives across the enterprise. At a time when regulations are increasing in number and risk and compliance management are more complex than ever, CA GRC Manager On Demand allows customers to rapidly implement a solution to help comprehensively govern business operations—from IT and beyond. CA GRC Manager On Demand enables organizations to leverage the full functionality and benefits of CA GRC Manager, including a centralized system to manage and store corporate policies, improve compliance with those policies and manage the risks associated with non-compliance, while accelerating end-user adoption and time to value.

CA Instant Recovery On Demand is a SaaS version of CA’s award-winning business continuity and disaster recovery technology. CA Instant Recovery On Demand eliminates up-front IT infrastructure or staff costs, helping customers to achieve continuous application and data availability, even in the event of systems failures or external disasters. Sold and delivered by authorized CA partners, the solution is particularly relevant for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses (SMBs) faced with the challenges of maintaining non-stop business operations and protecting critical business applications and data with limited resources and budget.

One partner that has already seen the benefits of this technology is powersolution.com, an ebusiness solutions company. They use it to provide a reliable, stable infrastructure for their SMB customers that have little to no IT staff.

“The opportunity for SaaS providers in the SMB market is astronomical and the value they can provide their customers is huge,” said David Dadian, CEO for powersolution.com Inc. “Neither the customer or reseller is investing a lot of capital up-front. They can achieve the same results as a mirrored site at a fraction of the cost. This minimizes cost and provides for faster and greater ROI.”

CA’s On Demand offerings are examples of how CA Enterprise IT Management and Governance solutions are able to help organizations drive business value from IT and effectively improve IT economics. With CA solutions in place, customers can respond more quickly and efficiently to changing conditions and capitalize on emerging business opportunities. The solutions that CA is announcing at CA World 2008 can help lower the total cost of ownership of IT by providing faster time-to-value and reducing IT costs through better integration, automation and control.
