Podcast, Conference Sessions to Emphasize Graduated Rollout of Cloud Technologies
NetworkWorld IT Roadmap San Francisco Conference & Expo 2008

rPath today hit the road to promote the practical, graduated adoption of cloud computing technologies. This follows a podcast interview published on Friday during which Billy Marshall, rPath co-founder and chief strategy officer, speaks with a leading industry pundit about the importance of a managed approach to enterprise application virtualization. This week, Marshall will speak at NetworkWorld IT Roadmap San Francisco Conference & Expo 2008, which is being held today at Moscone Center North in San Francisco; and SYS-CON’s Cloud Computing Conference & Expo 2008 West, which takes place November 19-21, 2008, at the San Jose Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, CA.

“For many organizations, now is the perfect time to make a concerted, yet measured push to virtualization and cloud computing,” said Jake Sorofman, vice president of marketing for rPath. “Any organization subject to today’s economic realities will appreciate the cost advantages and flexibility of cloud. At the same time, it’s critical to recognize that virtualization and cloud introduce new levels of complexity that must be addressed through a graduated approach to adoption and an architectural approach to managing the application lifecycle in this new virtualized environment.”

In the Interarbor Solutions podcast interview, “How Enterprises Can Follow a Practical Path to Virtualized Applications,” rPath’s Marshall talks about the graduated adoption of cloud computing, including development and deployment of the virtual applications that run in the cloud as well as in other virtual environments. Policy-based lifecycle management is discussed as a way of ensuring the conformance and consistency of virtual applications while avoiding risk and complexity. At NetworkWorld IT Roadmap San Francisco Conference & Expo 2008, Marshall will present “The Pragmatist’s Guide to Cloud Computing: A 5-Step Framework for Achieving the Strategic Value of Cloud Computing While Delivering Real ROI Along the Way.” The session will provide a context for understanding the role of cloud computing and its potential for organizations as well as a pragmatic, actionable, five-step framework for achieving measurable benefits now, while laying the foundation for the strategic benefits of a cloud infrastructure over time. rPath is a platinum sponsor of the show and will be exhibiting in booth #717. Marshall’s presentation will be held today at 3:20pm.
For SYS-CON’s Cloud Computing Conference & Expo 2008 West, Marshall will present “On the Path to Cloud Nirvana.” The session will focus on virtual appliances as a natural deployment vehicle for a cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services’ Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Marshall will also discuss the flexibility, scalability, and financial savings that result from leveraging virtual appliances and cloud computing. Implementation of this strategy is examined in a real-life case study on KnowledgeTree, a document management provider. “On the Path to Cloud Nirvana” will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 6:45pm – 7:30pm.
