Dave Satterfield Is the Latest in a Series of Respected Journalists to Join the Strategic Communications Firm
Award-winning journalist David Satterfield, currently the managing editor of the San Jose Mercury News, will be joining the Silicon Valley/San Francisco office of Sitrick And Company, one of the nation’s leading public relations firms specializing in corporate, financial, transactional and crisis communications.
“Dave is one of the most experienced and respected journalists in the Bay Area, so we are excited to have him join our team,” said Michael S. Sitrick, the firm’s chairman and chief executive officer. “With his knowledge of the region’s industries, particularly high technology, Dave will provide our clients with exceptional strategic insight. His knowledge of the media – both traditional and digital – fits perfectly with the culture and background of our firm and will yield significant benefit to our clients – in the Bay Area and beyond.”
Mr. Satterfield is the latest in an impressive list of seasoned editors and reporters who recently have joined the firm from The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. The firm also employs former journalists from The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Business News, the Orange County Register and CBS Television News.
“We see a real need in the Bay Area for the kind of services our firm offers in good times and even more so now,” said Lance Ignon, head of Sitrick’s Bay Area office. “With so many companies under tremendous pressure and facing unprecedented challenges, our experience and expertise across the business and financial spectrum have become all the more valuable. Dave understands our unique approach to strategic communications and will add an important dimension to our already robust capabilities.”
Mr. Satterfield joins Sitrick with 27 years of experience in journalism. He has been managing editor of the San Jose Mercury News – the newspaper of Silicon Valley – for the past five years, overseeing day-to-day operations. Prior to that, he served two years as the newspaper’s business and technology editor.
Before joining the Mercury News, Mr. Satterfield spent 17 years as a reporter and editor at the Miami Herald, where he was part of two teams that won Pulitzer Prizes. He has deep expertise in banking, technology, insurance and economics reporting.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Sitrick team and look forward to demonstrating the firm’s extraordinary capabilities to Silicon Valley companies, law firms and individuals,” Mr. Satterfield said. “Sitrick is recognized by many in the media as the best of the best. While I will dearly miss the newspaper business and the people with whom I have worked, this is an opportunity I could not pass up.”
Typically ranked among the top strategic communications firms in the nation, Sitrick And Company has advised numerous high-profile companies, organizations and individuals during defining moments, including Patricia Dunn, former chairman of HP, and Roy Disney of Shamrock Holdings.
While best known for its communications work in sensitive situations, Sitrick And Company has extensive and successful practices in the more traditional areas of corporate, financial and transactional communications. The firm represents public and private companies, as well as government agencies and individuals ranging from corporate executives to celebrities.
Based in Los Angeles and with offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York, the firm was founded 20 years ago and finished its first year in business as the 15th largest independent public relations firm in the nation. It broke into the top 10 the following year. Last year, the firm was named “Strategic Agency of the Year” by one of the public relations industry’s leading trade publications.
