Sony Ericsson wins JCP Member of the Year award
Sony Ericsson has been voted as the winner of the Member of the Year category of the Java Community Process (JCP) Program’s Annual Awards. The announcement was made by the JCP Program Management Office at an awards ceremony held last night during the JavaOne Conference.
The JCP Program held its 4th annual JCP Program Community Event where awards in five different categories were revealed. The nominations had been made by the Executive Committees (ECs), and the winner in each category determined by Executive Committee vote.
The JCP Member of the Year award recognizes the corporate or individual member who has made the most significant positive impact on the community in the past year. Leadership, investment in the community, and innovation were some of the qualities that EC Members were looking for in voting for this award. The runners up for the Member of the Year award were JBoss, NTT DoCoMo, and Sun Microsystems.
Sony Ericsson is an active, voting member of the Javaâ„¢ ME (Micro Edition) EC, participating in the evolution of mobile Java technology through the JCP Program. The JCP ECs guide the development of and approve new Java Specification Requests (JSRs). The Java ME EC is a group of members of the Java community guiding the development of Java technology on mobile devices and representing a cross-section of major stakeholders, including Sony Ericsson. Through the Java ME EC, Sony Ericsson has been working to ensure an open, well-managed Java community. Its clear mission is to ensure optimal progress of Java technology in mobile phones and to maximize the usage and interoperability of Java technology based applications on mobile phones.
