Sangh Parivar, Elite and Electronic Media Pressing Government for Retaliatory Bombing
No Unilateral Action but Approach to Security Council Advisable
New Delhi, 8 December, 2008: Mr. S. Shahabuddin, ex. MP has issued the following statement;
Following the terrorist invasion, the government is under pressure from the Hindu Right, the elite, the upper classes and a section of the electronic media to bomb Pakistan in retaliation.
No doubt the Mumbai attack has angered the people and outraged world conscience but the Government should not permit itself to be hustled into any military adventure in Pakistan or POK, following in the footsteps of the USA.
Government must first collect judicially acceptable evidence on nationality of the terrorists and the direct or indirect role of the LeT and / or ISI in organizing the invasion.
Secondly the Government should first place the evidence before Pakistan and if Pakistan does not act, take the case to the UN Security Council and seek collective action by the international community.
Thirdly, the Government should prosecute the captured terrorist as well as his handlers in absentia, and obtain a judicial mandate for their deportation.
The Government should focus on November 26 attack only without mixing it with the previous terrorist incidents and our longstanding demand for deportation of their culprits.
