IBM Maintains Worldwide Marketshare Leadership in Application Development Software According to Top Analyst Firm
IBM today announced that analyst firm Gartner, Inc. has ranked IBM as the worldwide market share leader in the application development and project and portfolio management marketplace based on total software revenue for 2005. This marks the fifth consecutive year that IBM maintained its leadership in the application development software market.
According to the independent report, IBM was the leading market share vendor in total software revenue with 25.4 percent market share, more than double the share of its nearest competitor. Gartner also stated that among the top 10 vendors in the Project and Portfolio Management market space, IBM grew faster than any of its competition. The worldwide application development and project and portfolio management software market grew 6.7 percent in 2005 to more than $7 billion.
IBM was also noted for its leadership across application development market sub-categories including Software Change and Configuration Management, Java Development Tools, Language-Oriented Development Environments, Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, and a general category titled Other Application Development Tools.
“IBM’s track record of innovation is required in this dynamic application development market place,” said Danny Sabbah, general manager, Rational software, IBM Software Group. “We consider Rational’s continued ranking as the number one application development vendor by Gartner as a testament to our market leading software development platform.”
