Moser Baer forges strategic alliance with UTV motion picture for exclusive license of Home Video for 25 movies

New Delhi, December 16, 2008: Moser Baer Entertainment Limited (MBEL), the wholly owned subsidiary of Moser Baer, has entered into a strategic alliance with UTV Motion Pictures for the exclusive home video distribution of UTV movies.

This gives MBEL domestic rights to UTV’s home video catalogue which comprises of 10 films. Moser Baer Entertainment will also get home video rights to all UTV productions released until mid 2009. The acquisition gives Moser Baer Entertainment access to premium content from UTV. The company plans to release 15 new films over the next six months. Six of them are being released in December and January. They are “A Wednesday, Mumbai Meri Jaan, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Fashion, Kismat Konnection and Oye Lucky Lucky oye.”

Other films to which Moser Baer Entertainment now gets rights include UTV’s home productions like Swades, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Life in a Metro, Aamir, and others.

Commenting on the development, Harish Dayani, the CEO of MBEL, said: “Moser Baer’s entertainment business is working towards the consolidation of the home video space in India. Our strategy is based on the twin pillars of affordable prices to curb piracy and everywhere distribution to drive mass consumption. UTV has emerged in recent times as one of the leading studios in the country and its home video titles add lustre to our product line. We today own over 10,000 titles in all Indian languages and the objective now is to keep giving Indian consumers new premium content at regular intervals at delightful prices to encourage consumers to watch original and quality movies than buying pirated movies”.

UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said: “The home video business in India is growing significantly and with the kind of revenue potential it has it can no longer be seen as just another ancillary revenue stream.
