Seagate Teparuk Plant Receives National Outstanding Safety Factory Award

Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), the world’s leading hard drive company, is pleased to announce that its Teparuk facility was awarded Thailand’s National Outstanding Safety Factory Award for Occupational Health, Safety and Environment for 2006 by the Department of Employee Welfare and Labor Protection, Ministry of Labor. This is the third consecutive year that Seagate’s Teparuk site has received this honor.

“This recognition represents our employees’ commitment to continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance complying to corporate requirements,” said Peerapol Wilaiwongstien, Seagate Teparuk executive director and plant manager. “All of us at Seagate are very proud to be working at one of the country’s leading manufacturing operations, one in which a strong emphasis is placed on employee safety and protecting the environment.”

As part of the government’s assessment for this award, Seagate’s safety performance for the past two years was evaluated by officials from the Department of Labor Protection and Social Welfare and Department of Safety Inspection. The facility assessments covered a broad scope of safety program elements, including safety policy, safety management, workplace safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene and the overall working environment. Officials from the Samutprakarn Labor Protection and Social Department verified the first round of the assessment at the provincial level. All elements must score above 90 percent to qualify for the second round of assessments for the National Award.

“This prestigious award recognizes Seagate’s commitment to protecting employee health, safety and welfare, as well as protecting the environment and setting an example for local industry,” said Peerapol. Seagate’s Teparuk facility achieved several other accolades from the government, including the Year 2006 Drug-Free Plant Award.
