Motorola Takes Leadership Role in Accelerating Adoption of Open, Standards-based Communications Platforms

Continuing its long-term commitment to open, standards-based communications computing, Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has taken a leading role in accelerating the adoption of open, standards-based communications servers by becoming a founding sponsor of the recently announced Communications Platforms Trade Association (CP-TA). “The mission of the CP-TA is perfectly aligned with Motorola’s communications server vision of a common communications computing platform based on open industry standards,” said Shlomo Pri-Tal, Director, Group Technology Office for Motorola’s Embedded Communications Computing business. “By adding Motorola’s experience and high level of commitment to CP-TA, we believe that the industry’s ability to deliver the time-to-market, flexibility, and economic benefits of open, standards-based computing will be more quickly realized.”

CP-TA’s mission is to drive the creation of a mainstream market for open industry standards-based communications platforms by certifying interoperable building blocks from multiple vendors. Twenty telecom industry companies have joined to launch CP-TA and elected Pri-Tal as its first chairman. “The CP-TA brings together industry leaders who are collaborating to establish a true standards-based ecosystem that delivers interoperable products from multiple vendors,” continued Pri-Tal. “As a result, we expect that Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) will see faster time-to-market, lower integration costs, alternative sourcing and product choice and economies of scale. Specifying CP-TA certified products will allow NEPs to identify hardware and software products and be confident that everything works together.”

CP-TA will develop interoperability testing requirements and test methodologies and procedures based on the profiles created by the SCOPE Alliance and specifications developed by PICMG, OSDL/CGL, the SA Forum and other standards development organizations. Initial focus will be on ATCA technology and systems.

CP-TA is co-locating with OSDL and the Service Availability Forum in Booth #13048 at GLOBALCOMM 2006. These three groups, along with PICMG and the SCOPE Alliance will share how they are working together in an Interop Panel on June 5 at 2 p.m. in the CP-TA booth. Show attendees also will have the opportunity to hear CP-TA introductory presentations from CP-TA members and see two interoperability demonstrations.
