An innovative way for Chicagoans to track their daily commute, a clever seven-year-old who comes to his father’s rescue, and an overview of exciting developments about the convergence of new wireless devices and applications at AT&T from Glenn Lurie, President of Emerging Devices, National Distribution and Resale for AT&T, are featured segments in this month’s “Wonder of Wireless” (WOW) webcast, produced by CTIA-The Wireless Association®. The webcast is now available for viewing and includes several video segments that highlight a variety of wireless related topics involving the mobile enterprise, emergency rescues, significant public policy milestones, and much more.

The “Wireless at Work” segment of the January WOW webcast features the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and a new mobile application called Bus Tracker. This innovative tool is a web-based application that allows users to access a CTA site via their web-enabled mobile device, laptop with an air card, or PC, and plug-in basic information to determine when buses are scheduled to arrive at various stops. Users simply input their bus line, originating bus stop, and direction of travel, then Bus Tracker gives them an estimated arrival time of buses that will get them on their way. CTA officials and Chicago bus riders talk about how Bus Tracker is helping to take the guesswork out of daily commuting by increasing efficiency and cutting costs.

This month’s webcast also highlights a one-on-one “Insider Interview” with Glenn Lurie, AT&T’s President of Emerging Devices, National Distribution and Resale. Lurie discusses his new position and mission of introducing wireless capabilities into a host of emerging devices beyond handsets, and provides an inside look into some of the exciting opportunities on the horizon for consumers in a ‘converged’ world.

The “Wireless Lifesaver” story recounts a heroic seven-year-old who called 911 from a cell phone to help save his father’s life as he was suffering from a heart attack. And, the WOW “Policy Point” examines the important issue of wireless child safety and what the wireless industry is doing to help protect kids from unsuitable mobile content and behavior.
