Dell to Expand Nashville Operations; Increase Area Workforce By Up to 1,000 Employees

Dell today announced plans to expand its Americas customer-contact operations and increase employment at its Middle Tennessee facilities by up to 1,000 people over the next several quarters.

“Our continued Americas growth, combined with the quality of this area’s workforce, made the decision to expand our operations here an easy one,” said Kevin Rollins, Dell’s chief executive officer. “Today’s announcement reconfirms our commitment to keeping Nashville and Middle Tennessee as one of our primary operations sites in the Americas region.”

Along with the employment increase in Tennessee, Dell also announced that Tennessee Titan rookie quarterback Vince Young will lend his support to Dell’s Middle Tennessee TechKnow program, an after-school curriculum that provides underserved middle-school students access to technology and 21st-century skills. Additionally, Dell announced an expansion of support capabilities to small businesses and consumers with its new DellConnect remote assistance tool that fixes common technology problems that rob them of computing time and resources.

Since Dell’s launch of its Middle Tennessee operations in August 1999 with about 200 production, sales and call center employees, the company has expanded its work force to approximately 3,500. Today’s announcement will increase employment at Dell’s Tennessee facilities to as many 4,500 by the completion of the workforce expansion.
