Acquisition of company will enable AbleNet to expand software offerings and product development for people with physical and intellectual disabilities

AbleNet Incorporated, a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of assistive technologies and curriculum for people with disabilities, today announced the acquisition of SoftTouch Inc., a family-owned company that focuses on the development of high-quality software and access devices for people with multiple physical and intellectual challenges.

The acquisition, and subsequent addition of SoftTouch software products to AbleNet’s extensive line of assistive technology solutions, extends AbleNet’s reach in offering more software products to people with disabilities around the globe. SoftTouch President Mark Fulton will join AbleNet as Technology Director.

“We are very pleased to include SoftTouch products and the software and technology expertise of Mark Fulton to the AbleNet team,” said AbleNet President and CEO Jen Thalhuber. “The AbleNet marketing strength creates an exciting opportunity to expand the SoftTouch market through our global network.”

AbleNet is aggressively bringing the best and broadest assortment of assistive technology solutions to the global market as evidenced by introducing numerous new products and making strategic acquisitions in the past two years. In 2008 the company acquired Tash International, which broadened the assistive technology solutions; introduced several new technology products; and has developed a number of enhanced curriculum programs.

“AbleNet is a dynamic company whose vision meshes nicely with SoftTouch’s focus on providing software that assists people with disabilities to learn, engage and grow,” said SoftTouch President Mark Fulton. “Being part of the AbleNet family is an incredible opportunity for all of us to expand our desired areas of growth in software, technology and curriculum development for those with special needs.”
