o Plasmon end-users can maximise their investments in storage products safe in the knowledge that service and support from a global expert is still available

o Kodak acquires the services of former Plasmon storage support specialists in the UK and Germany to enhance its specialist skill sets and add to its dedicated Plasmon team

January 19, 2009 — In the light of Plasmon Data Systems going into administration, Kodak announces today that it has strengthened its ability to offer ongoing service and support for all users of Plasmon’s optical storage and Archive Appliance products. Kodak has acquired the services of four former Plasmon support specialists who have joined its large global service and support team and has purchased a large quantity of additional spare parts so that end-user organisations can continue to derive value from their investments in Plasmon storage solutions.

Kodak has extensive Plasmon-related service and support expertise having operated as that company’s worldwide authorised service provider since 2001, maintaining thousands of storage systems internationally.

Plasmon entered business administration in October 2008 leaving an installed base of some 6,500 customers in a state of uncertainty. David Brown, Kodak’s EMEA business services director, says, “The message to end-users is very much don’t panic as there is no change from a maintenance perspective and support is readily available. Given the economic credit crunch climate of today, if they want to, users can choose to get more life from their Plasmon platforms safe in the knowledge that a trusted partner like Kodak has the people, know-how, logistics and parts to ensure continued support for the foreseeable future.”

Kodak has the acquired the services of four highly experienced Plasmon support specialists in UK and Germany. Their considerable hardware and software expertise enhances the resources of Kodak’s extensive storage support team worldwide, backed by an organisation of 3,000 service professionals operating in more than 120 countries. Kodak is uniquely positioned as the leading service provider of Plasmon products worldwide.

In the light of the unfortunate collapse of Plasmon, Kodak has established a help line for channel partners and end-users who wish to discuss the status of their Plasmon related maintenance contracts. Organisations using Plasmon products should contact their normal Plasmon reseller or they can call Kodak directly on +44 (0)870 243 2254 or by emailing gb-diessg {at} kodak(.)com

Brown adds, “Self evidently companies should not wait until they have a service issue to be reassured of maintenance cover. Our advice to Plasmon resellers who have sold maintenance contracts to customers is to get in touch with us so that serial numbers of the specific Plasmon storage devices can be verified in our systems.”

Kodak Service and Support is a leading multi-vendor integrated services provider, delivering consulting, installation, maintenance and support services for the commercial printing, graphic communications, document imaging and data storage industries.
