SlideShare Adds a Video Element to Online Presentations with Support for YouTube Videos

SlideShare today announced a new feature that lets users embed YouTube videos in their online presentations.

After a user uploads a PowerPoint (or KeyNote) file to SlideShare, they can now insert one or more YouTube videos into the presentation to create a true multimedia experience. The videos each appear as a separate slide in the presentation. This ability to “remix” video and slides creates many possibilities for artistic expression and business communication. YouTube has the largest collection of videos in the world, while SlideShare has the largest collection of presentations.

SlideShare already allows users to add audio to their slides. With this release, users can now add video as well.

“We realized that there is a lot of great video content on YouTube that authors can use to improve their presentations. Our community will use these videos to add screencasts, highlight reels, or explanatory videos to their web presentations. We plan to add support for other video websites in the near future,” said Jonathan Boutelle, SlideShare’s CTO.

“SlideShare has been missing an important element of presentations by not allowing for video within the slides. And video presentations have not had a home on the web except in isolation.
