Under its poverty alleviation programme Nasscom Foundation has introduced a unique only-for-women animation skills training. It has been introduced at NF’s Hyderabad and Sangli centre. With animation training mushrooming in every nook and corner of the country, anyone who is ready to pay the whooping amount is taking up the course.
But under NF’s programme the women at Sangli are all Government Diploma holders in Fine Arts and as for Hyderabad they have picked up girls who were engaged in Zardosi work or Mehendi designing, generally women with artistic inclination. This programme will just not provide tools training but also soft skills training. The course fee comes at a much discounted amount, significantly lesser than even the lowest amount charged by institutes; the girls need not pay it at one go, once they are employed they can contribute back to the programme.
The programme comes with a job guarantee – in Hyderabad, NF has tied up with an animation studio that will employ these trained girls and in Sangli they will get to work on a Government of Maharashtra’s project. Already a pilot project was conducted in Hyderabad, wherein 100 girls were trained, now most of them are employed and earn somewhere between Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 5000. After the training, the women not only added to the family’s earning kitty but they also saw an upliftment in their social status.
Earlier they would have got married off by age of 15 or 16 but after being independent, they not only got more educated and well settled grooms but also got to take the call on whom to marry and when to marry.
