SAMSUNG Electronics Senior Executives Honored by Society for Information Display at 2006 Conference
Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Jun Hyung Souk, head of the Samsung LCD Business Research Center, is presented with a Special Recognition Award from the SID (Society for Information Display) Board of Directors today at the 2006 SID International Symposium and Exhibition, while Samsung Electronics Vice President Brian Berkeley was named SID Secretary and a member of Board of Directors.
Mr. Souk joined Samsung Electronics in 1996, his 20 th year in the LCD business. During the past decade, he has developed basic technologies that have made a major contribution to the LCD industry in areas such as wide viewing angle, high color saturation and rapid liquid crystal response time. Mr. Souk surprised the world in 2001 with Samsung’s development of the world’s first 40†LCD panel, which broke a difficult technology applications barrier at the time. That breakthrough served as an historic milestone in the proliferation of large-screen LCDs.
Executive Vice President Souk has served on the SID Program Committee for 8 years and helped to promote relations between display manufacturers and academia both on and off the committee. He has co-authored more than 60 technical papers and delivered more than 30 presentations on the topics. He has devoted his career to furthering a healthy atmosphere of alliance-seeking between LCD industry and leading academic institutions.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics Vice President Brian Berkeley, an executive involved in LCD technology development, has been elected to serve as Secretary of the Society for Information Display. Vice President Berkeley will serve as one of four officers of the Society, and will also serve as a member of SID’s Board of Directors. He has been in the display industry for thirty years, working at Apple Computer among others, and he played an important role in establishing the use of LCDs in the IT industry.
