Image Entertainment Receives Academy Award® Nomination for Werner Herzog’s “Encounters at the End of the World”

Critically-Acclaimed Film Selected for Best Documentary Feature Category
Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:DISK), a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of entertainment programming in North America, announced today that Encounters at the End of the World, written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Werner Herzog, was nominated for an Oscar® in the Best Documentary Feature category in the upcoming 81st Academy Awards®.
Encounters at the End of the World was acquired by Image in January 2008, released theatrically by Image (through a service deal with ThinkFilm) in June 2008 and on DVD, Blu-ray™ and digital in November 2008. The film was one of 94 documentaries qualified in the category that were reviewed by the Academy’s Documentary Branch Screening Committee. The 81st Academy Awards® will be presented Feb. 22, 2009.

Encounters at the End of the World, filmed entirely on location in Antarctica, is a Creative Differences Production in association with Discovery Films and Discovery Channel. The film was written, directed & narrated by Werner Herzog. Joe Bini served as editor; Peter Zeitlinger is director of photography with original music by Henry Kaiser and David Lindley. For Creative Differences, Erik Nelson is the executive producer, along with Dave Harding and Phil Fairclough. The film is produced by Henry Kaiser with Tree Leyburn as the associate producer. For Discovery Films, Andrea Meditch is executive producer and for Discovery Channel, Julian P. Hobbs is executive producer.
