As the recession drags on, many people are looking for budget corners to cut. Credit counselors often advise debt-strapped consumers to save money by eating in. Restaurant meals can be expensive, and often less healthy than home cooking. “We noticed that many fast food places were advertising individual meals for $5, so we challenged ourselves to come up with nutritious family dinners for under $5.55,” said ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions President and CEO Chris Honenberger.

ClearPoint priced out ingredients at various grocery stores and bulk retailers to come up with 15 well balanced, figure-friendly recipes that won’t starve your wallet. “Many people don’t realize that restaurant food comes at a high premium. When you add in the tip and the cost of gas, eating out is becoming a luxury fewer people can afford,” said Honenberger.

“One complaint we often hear from clients who are trying to reduce expenses is that they end up making multiple trips to the grocery store, where all kinds of temptations lie in wait to sabotage their budget and their waistline,” said Honenberger.

Recognizing that convenience is a valued commodity to busy consumers, ClearPoint’s recipe list shows how a little planning and organization can make cooking at home quick and easy. “We have created a printable grocery list for everything you will need to make five weekday meals for three weeks,” said Honenberger.

The recipes are also in printable format, and don’t take much time to prepare. Find them at http://www.clearpointcreditcounselingsolutions.org/ways_to_save/feed_family.aspx.
