devolo Signs Global Licensing Agreement with Intellon for its Patented PowerSave Technology

Global licensing agreement makes devolo’s low-current powerline technology available for all HomePlug AV products using Intellon chips

26 January, 2009 – devolo, the global leader in HomePlug powerline technology, has signed a global licensing agreement with US chip manufacturer Intellon, making its patented PowerSave low-current powerline technology available for all HomePlug AV products using Intellon chips.

devolo’s intelligent PowerSave technology reduces the energy consumption of HomePlug adaptors by 30%, helping to lower household energy consumption and reduce emissions.

The licensing agreement makes devolo’s PowerSave technology available to all manufacturers of HomePlug AV products with Intellon chips and means that the increasingly popular HomePlug technology for home networking will now also meet high modern demands on low energy consumption.

devolo’s patented PowerSave technology has been developed as part of its Follow Green green IT programme (www.devolo-green-it.com), which promotes a sustainable and responsible business policy and a commitment to reducing energy usage, recycling and RoHS compliance.

The intelligent PowerSave technology detects whether the network device connected to the HomePlug adapter is switched on or off. When the device is switched off, PowerSave also reduces the energy consumption of the adapter by 30 percent.

As the result of the license agreement between devolo and Intellon, devolo has also integrated this low-current, energy-saving technology into its HomePlug 1.0 compatible product line, equipping all devolo products with the PowerSave feature.
