Annual City Lights Ball Dance Competition and Show Happens This Weekend, Jan 31 & Feb 1, at San Jose Doubletree Hotel; Audience Invited to Dance

The popular annual City Lights Ball dance competition and show, which has doubled in size, prestige and popularity over the past 3 years, will take place January 31 and February 1, 2009, at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose, California. There’s something for everyone at this event, from saucy Latin dancing to elegant standard ballroom fare and from kids’ to seniors’ competitions; members of the audience are invited to dance at various intervals throughout the evening competitions.

This year’s show will feature a performance by the current World Professional Standard champions, Mirko Gozzoli and Alessia Betti, among dozens of other performances and competitions for adults and children; see http://www.citylightsball.com for details. World-class dancers will be coming to perform and compete not only from the San Jose area but also from dozens of countries including China, Russia, Lithuania, Germany, Italy and England. Group and seniors discounts are available; call 650-544-6655 for information. Seniors 55 and over get in free during the day events; kids get in free on Sunday, which will include a wide variety of kids’ competitions. ORGANIZERS:
The City Lights Ball is organized and presented by two-time World and European Champion dancer Glenn Weiss and Barbara Gore, both of Menlo Park. Weiss, who provided ballroom choreography for the Fox show So You Think You Can Dance is an international dance judge and has trained many champion competitors from the Bay Area and around the world. Gore, who spent 22 years in the technology marketplace, dances competitively as an amateur with local San Jose professional Andrea Faraci in the Pro/Am division.
