Vendors can reduce costs and time-to-market with off the shelf network intelligence technology

As mobile service providers seek to transform their operational models from “dumb pipes” that only offer connectivity to Smart Pipes that offer a wide range of revenue-generating services and applications, they need greater visibility into their networks. Today, Network Intelligence vendor Qosmos announced the availability of enabling technology that Network Equipment Providers and Software Vendors can use to rapidly build robust Smart Pipe solutions for the mobile market.

Qosmos provides an efficient building block approach for Smart Pipe solutions, consisting of a software development kit and appliances that enable vendors to quickly enhance their current offerings. Using Qosmos technology, support services and expertise, they can avoid the considerable time and cost of developing their own “Network Intelligent” solutions.

“We see an increased demand for our Network Intelligence technology from vendors who want to deliver innovative solutions to their Mobile Network Operator customers,” said Thibaut Bechetoille, Qosmos CEO. “Using Qosmos platforms, Network Equipment Providers and Software Vendors can leverage best-in-class expertise to avoid costly and lengthy in-house development, and focus their own resources on the development of applications for which they already have domain expertise.”

The Qosmos technology for Smart Pipes captures detailed information from the hundreds of IP applications that cross networks, with easy drill down into service, event and customer levels. This deeper visibility allows providers of solutions for tiered services, content and application-aware billing, user behavior analysis, or QoE/QoS to deliver new, truly differentiating services to operators.

“Operators must invest in technologies that provide greater network intelligence to offer differentiated service to subscribers,” said David Vorhaus, Analyst at Yankee Group. “They must evolve their business models and exploit existing technologies to overcome bandwidth constraints and the economic burden of over-provisioning in order to protect their profitability.”

Qosmos Network Intelligence technology can be deployed as a hardware probe on the network, as software embedded into a Smart Pipe solution, or through software embedded directly into network equipment. Qosmos also provides customization services and regular protocol updates, radically reducing vendors’ ongoing development investments.
