Rooftop Posters for Band’s Self-Titled Album Appear On 200 Cabs Across New York
Bi-coastal outdoor media company Show Media today announced that it has placed a New York City taxicab advertising campaign for Epic Records’ alternative rock band The Fray. The rooftop posters, which have already generated considerable buzz among music industry professionals as well as the public, promote The Fray’s brand-new, self-titled album which debuted on February 3, 2009.
Grammy-nominated group The Fray, currently ranked the #1 most popular musical group on the Apple iTunes Store, has sold over 4 million albums worldwide. The band’s new release is its second studio album; its first, “How to Save a Life,” was a Double Platinum seller. In addition to racking up multiple million-plus single releases, The Fray’s songs have been used in soundtracks for such top-rated TV series as Lost and Grey’s Anatomy.
Show Media Outdoor’s placement of Epic Records’ promotional ads includes 200 taxicabs across Manhattan. The campaign, scheduled to run January 26-February 14, features creative from Epic Records’ in-house agency.
Said Joe King, guitarist and co-founder of The Frey, “You know you’ve made it when you’re on top of a taxi in New York City!”
“The Fray is helping define a new rock sound that is fresh, cosmopolitan and highly intelligent. By promoting its new album on the streets of New York City, the band is meeting its core audience in a way that is relevant to them,” said John Amato, president of Show Media. “This is most apparent by the immediate and positive response from other musicians as well as fans and the general public. To have an executive call me and tell me other high profile artists are calling and requesting this advertising for their album—it’s clear that taxis are an ideal venue for the personal and contemporary messages the entertainment industry has to communicate.”
Working from its principal bases of operations in Los Angeles and New York City, Show Media is known for its innovative use of taxis for unusual advertising concepts; the company is owned by Las Vegas real estate developer and outdoor advertising pioneer Laurence Hallier, who made backlit lexan taxitop displays popular nearly ten years ago. Show Media has recently provided the rolling platforms for groundbreaking campaigns from Levi Strauss & Co., Nike, Ray-Ban, ABC-TV, Armani Exchange and many others.
