New Delhi, February 10, 2009: Moser Baer, the global technology company, today said its 40 megawatt Thin Film Line has received the prestigious certification from the Inernational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The certification confirms that the thin film modules to be produced at the plant in Greater Noida will meet IEC’s stringent requirements for functional and mechanical capabilities for long-term operation and safety specifications under challenging environmental conditions. Just a fortnight ago, Moser Baer had announced that its photovoltaic subsidiary is ready for production of thin film photovoltaic modules.
Ratul Puri, Executive Director, Moser Baer, said: “I am delighted with this achievement. This certification of our thin film single junction modules is a huge win for us and a testament to the high calibre of Moser Baer’s technical expertise and manufacturing processes. The IEC certificate will help us successfully market thin film PV technology and demonstrates the reliability and long term performance of our product This development is further validation of our strategy to be a major player in the global solar photovoltaic industry.”
Rajiv Arya, the Chief Executive Officer of Moser Baer’s Photovoltaic subsidiary, said: “In under two years of operation, Moser Baer Photovoltaic has achieved certification for products across three technologies—crystalline silicon, high concentration and thin film. The IEC certification is a gold standard in the solar industry. Our thin film single junction modules have demonstrated the highest production capacity to date for manufacturing the world’s largest solar modules and they have passed IEC’s battery of tests and passed the first time. This accelerated certification will enable us to serve the needs of our strategic customers.”
Moser Baer’s 40MW thin film line in Greater Noida is now ready for production and work on the 65MW tandem junction thin film line, coming up adjacent to the present line, is proceeding rapidly. The company is also setting up a 500MW capacity thin film plant in Chennai.
Note for Editors
The Geneva-based IEC sets international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies and its test standard is used worldwide by the solar industry to verify that new solar modules and the encapsulation materials and manufacturers of solar modules meet a minimum set of functional and mechanical requirements to prove confidence for claim of long-term (+20 years) modules performance integrity.
