Lightspeed Technologies Introduces Unique Hybrid Speaker

Hybrid Speaker Design

It was a suggestion from a school district technology team in northern Florida that created the impetus to engineer a product combining both speaker technologies into a single, quick install unit. “We’re very impressed with how the flat panel speaker raises the intelligibility level of the teacher’s voice, and how well it covers the room,” comments Bill Piotrowski, Chief Technology Officer for Leon County School District. “We wanted to add a deeper, fuller sound to accommodate multimedia instruction and the addition of a cone speaker meets this requirement for us.” After spending time with the Florida technology team, Lightspeed engineers headed back to Oregon to design the new hybrid speaker. “Because of our direct involvement with Lightspeed’s research and development team, we now have the best of both speaker technologies, and as a bonus we are able to reduce installation costs.”

Simple, Cost Effective Installation

The MCQ hybrid combines an NXT™* flat panel speaker and a 6 inch cone speaker into a single 2’ x 2’ metal enclosure that lays into the ceiling grid. Only one MCQ speaker is needed in a standard classroom, reducing installation time and money. This unique hybrid speaker is designed to work with Lightspeed’s flexible 800 series of classroom audio systems. These systems use the latest infrared technology, and are considered the core component for integrating various audio sources common in today’s 21st century classrooms. With the new MCQ speaker every word of instruction is clear and multimedia audio is full and rich.
