80% cost reductions
InTechnology – www.intechnology.co.uk – a specialist in data management, hosting, network and voice services, has formed a joint venture called Live-PA Ltd with POSTcti of Harrogate. As a result of the joint venture, Live-PA Ltd has developed a recording function for Microsoft’s Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) platform, targeted at companies which have a legal obligation to record calls, such as financial businesses based in the City in London.
Because Live-PA is built into Office Communications Server 2007, it doesn’t require any additional routing hardware. As a result, this can be up to 80 percent cheaper than traditional call-recording solutions, which will be welcome news for all financial institutions in the current climate.
This is also very timely given the FSA’s March 6th 2009 deadline to record telephone conversations and electronic communications. The Market in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) will impact everyone providing investment advice or transaction services, from IFAs to investment banks, their clients and anyone providing market information such as exchanges and market data providers. MiFID states that a firm must take reasonable steps to retain all records made by it for a period of at least six months and in a medium that permits the FSA to access the records readily.
POSTcti provides unified voice and data technology and is working with Microsoft to deliver its new Office Communications Server 2007. Microsoft has just launched the general availability of the new product which promises enriched audio and video conferencing, powerful new developer tools and enhanced voice capabilities.
Neil May, managing director of POSTcti, and a leading Microsoft committee member for developing new unified communications technology, comments: “POSTcti has developed a product which gives regulatory compliance to the Microsoft product. We developed it in-house but needed support to take it to the next level. In order to fully exploit this opportunity, we sought investment and expertise from InTechnology’s founder Peter Wilkinson who has a track record of successfully developing IT products and services. The result is Live-PA Ltd. We also intend to launch a version of Live-PA for InTechnology’s broadsoft switch in the next couple of months.”
Peter Wilkinson, founder of InTechnology, explains: “It is rare to find two businesses so physically close, which have such opposing but complementary skills. The mixture of our next generation network, telephony, hosting and managed services skills, coupled with POSTcti’s Microsoft OCS skills, creates a powerful and unique combination.”
“Our first project is to write the only voice recording module for the Microsoft OCS suite and this has unlimited global potential, given the regulatory framework.”
Through this joint venture, InTechnology is bringing the iPlayer model to corporate call recording, allowing customers to playback any call that occurred in the last 30 days. Because InTechnology records calls centrally and has access to many terabytes of storage, it can record every call and then automatically delete them after 30 days, or whatever period the customer wants. This means the customer doesn’t need to choose which staff they want to record in advance.
Microsoft has said that the product will “change the face of business communications” by integrating audio, web and video conferencing, instant messaging and email into a platform configured around the way people work. POSTcti has won gold partner status with Microsoft to help its customers implement the new software into their businesses.
Neil May concludes: “Many companies are bringing internet protocol telephony into their business to reduce costs. In simple terms, this means making telephone calls on the internet, although there are many advanced applications for the kit. Our product will revolutionise the way in which people view their telephone systems.”
